INDIAN BOUNDARY PARK
Cooperation Creates Progress

Indian Boundary Park was acquired in 1984 and subsequently developed with the aid of a $200,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Department of Conservation. Over time the 34 acre park grew to its current size of 76.3 acres. Through a cooperative lease agreement with Citizens Utilities Company and then the Village of Bolingbrook, the District was able to use the open space between the park and sewer treatment plant. Years later a land donation from United Homes added acreage to the east and created the link to the DuPage River Greenway bike path. In the 1990's two baseball fields were constructed in the detention basins on the west side of the park to meet the increasing enrollment of the Bolingbrook Youth Baseball League. The park was also home to the Bolingbrook Soccer Club until 2001 when the Lily Cache Sports Fields opened.

Next to Central Park, Indian Boundary Park is by far the most heavily used park in town. As additional fields were added parking became a major concern.

In 2001 the soccer program relocated to the Lily Cache Sports Fields and Indian Boundary Park was redesign. An Open Space Land Acquisition and Development grant application was submitted to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to add a variety of facilities that would transform Indian Boundary into a true community park with diverse recreational opportunities. Phase I improvements, dedicated today, include Bolingbrook's first skate, two tennis courts, two basketball courts, expanded and paved parking, a new major league baseball field, batting cage area, pathways and renovation of two full size soccer fields. Phase I cost $819,000 of which the State grant contributed $400,000.

Thanks to the successful referendum on March 16, 2004, Phase II improvements may get underway in a couple years. Phase II include conveniences that will enhance the facilities already in place; a new concession/storage/washroom facility with flush toilets, lighting for the baseball and soccer fields, tennis courts and parking lot and more parking on the south side of the park.

The re-development of Indian Boundary Park demonstrates the spirit of cooperation between multiple governments, citizen groups and the business community. The Village of Bolingbrook has been a supportive partner since day one. The newly constructed facilities set on land leased from the Village of Bolingbrook. State Representative Brent Hassert secured a Congressional Open Lands Trust grant that allowed the Park District to purchase the leased land from the Village. The sale was consummated April 29, 2004.

Residents volunteering to serve on a Citizens Skate Park Committee participated in the skate park design. Those individuals were: Jason Linowski. Zachary O'Neil, Ronnie Dzik, Adam Higgan, Maason Goodwin, David Palowski, Chris Heyman, Charlie August, Debbie Bordeauz and Marty Schoenleber

It is only through the cooperation by and between the Village of Bolingbrook, the Bolingbrook Athletic Council, the Bolingbrook Youth Baseball Association, a Youth Skate Park Committee, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, State Representative Brent Hassert, and the Bolingbrook Park District that these improvements were made.
