1970's

1970 Park District created by successful referendum. First building was a white farmhouse.
1972 Passed $2.2 million referendum for land acquisition and development.
1974 Site for Deatherage Drdak Center acquired. Facility constructed with volunteer labor.
1975 Acquired Winston Woods - a 42 acre Woodland ($315,000 grant).
1976 Bolingbrook Athletic Council (BAC) formed to coordinate field use and recommend improvements.
1978 Bolingbrook Health & Racquet Club opens.
1979     Joliet-Bolingbrook Special Recreation Association formed.

1980's 

1980 Park District receives National Gold Medal Award as Best in Nation.
1980 $3.4 million referendum for park improvements passes.
1981 Boughton Ridge Golf Course opens.
1982 Bolingbrook Aquatic Center opens first indoor wave pool in the United States.
1986 Over 600 recreational, cultural and self improvement programs offered annually by the Park District.
1988     Hidden Lakes was acquired with the aid of Corlands. Site was eventually purchased in 1990 ($299,500 grant).

1990's

1990 Satisfaction guarantee adopted for recreation programs.
1991 Cherrywood Park rededicated as Lions Park.
1991 Remington Lakes Park site donated to district by William Gahlberg Association ($198,700 grant).
1992 Bolingbrook Trojan Football National Champions
1994 Earned Elite Bronze Award for Lifeguarding from Ellis and Associates.
1994 Bolingbrook Trojan Football National Champions
1994 Heritage Park opened.
1994 Successful $13.5 million referendum for a Recreation Center/Aquatic Complex.
1994 DuPage River Greenway opened ($149,100 grant).
1994 Indian Chase Meadows earns IL Department of Natural Resources first ever Outstanding Park Design Award.
1996     Bolingbrook Recreation & Aquatic Complex opened.
1996 Pelican Harbor Outdoor Aquatic Park opened.
1998 Pelican Harbor Indoor/Outdoor Aquatic Park earned Ellis and Associates Platinum National Aquatic Safety Award.
1998 Pelican Harbor Indoor/Outdoor Aquatic Park earned National Recreation and Park Association's National Excellence in Aquatics Award. 
1998 Park District awarded IPRA/IAPD Distinquished Agency Certification.
1999 Grand opening of remodeled and expanded Annerino Community Center.
1999 Earned 2nd National Gold Medal Award as Best in Nation.
1999 Earned National Recreation and Park Association KUDO's Award as Best Overall Communicator.
1999 Block Party Package earned Illinois Parks and Recreation Association Most Outstanding Ongoing Program Award.
1999 Lily Cache Greenway opened ($200,000 grant).

2000's

2000     ComEd Greenway opened ($400,000 grant).
2000 Little League International Best Safety Award presented to Bolingbrook Associated Little League.
2000 Annerino Community Center earned Illinois Park and Recreation Association Outstanding Facility Renovation Award.
2001 Pelican Harbor Indoor/Outdoor Aquatic Park expanded with five new attractions. 
2001 Earned National Recreation and Park Association KUDO's Award as Best Overall Communicator for third year in a row.
2001 Earned National Recreation and Park Association's Best Benefits Award for the 2nd time.
2001 Pelican Harbor Outdoor Aquatic Park earns Illinois Park and Recreation Association's Outstanding Facility Award.
2002 Lily Cache Sports Fields opened with six (four lighted) soccer fields.
2002 Bolingbrook Park District Board of Commissioners earns South Suburban Park and Recreation Professional Association's first ever Distinguished Park Board Award. 
2003 Completed new buildings and grounds facility.
2003 Earned National Recreaiton and Park Association KUDO's Award as Best Overall Communicator for fourth year in a row.
2003 Earned American Park and Recreation Society's Healthy Community Award for teh second year in a row.
2003 Earned National Recreation and Park Association KUDO's Award for Best Web Site.
2003 Completed construction of Bolingbrook's first skate park at Indian Boundary Park.
2003 Took a leading role in initiating a Community Character Counts! Coalition.
2003 Earned the 2003 APEX Award for Publication Excellence in New Web & Intranet Sites.
2003 Earned the Government Finance Officer's Association Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting Award for the second consective year.
2004 Rededicated Indian Boundary Park. The park's expansion included Bolingbrook's first skate park.
2004 Illinois Park and Recreation Association awarded Bolingbrook Park District Danceforce and Power Dance Project with its Outstanding Program Award.
2004 Successful $15 million referendum to fund land acquisition and park improvements throughout Bolingbrook.
2004 Pelican Harbor Indoor/Outdoor Aquatic Park named as "first of four that floats to the top" by Chicago Magazine.
2004 Bolingbrook Park District re-certified as an Illinois Distinquished Agency by the Illinois Park and Recreation Association and the Illinois Association of Park Districts.
2005 Unveiled two 25-foot portable climbing walls to be added to the Block Party Package. The addition was made possible with the generous support of Vulcan Materials.
2005 Unveiled the innovative Bloomfield Oasis Playground complete with artificial palm trees, Adirondack chair and a pelican statue.
2005 Pelican Harbor Indoor Aquatic Park was renovated with new attractions, state-of-the-art Menerga HVAC system to improve air quality, and other upgrades.
2005 Completed construction of Bolingbrook's second skate park-Central Park Skate Plaza.
2005 Joliet-Bolingbrook Special Recreation Association entered an intergovernmental agreement with Plainfield Park District for programs to be held in both communities for individuals with special needs.
2005 Recognized as one of four finalists for the National Gold Medal Award for Excellence in Park Management, Facilities and Programs.
2005 Earned the National Park and Recreation Association's KUDO's Award as the Nations Best Overall Communicator for an unprecedented 7th year.
2005 Earned the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association for the fourth consecutive year.
2006 Recognized as one of four finalists for the National Gold Medal Award for Excellence in Park Management, Facilities and Programs.
2008 Grand opening of Ashbury's at Boughton Ridge, the new clubhouse at Boughton Ridge Golf Course.
2009 Grand opening of Hidden Oaks Nature Center, a Platinum LEED Certified facility.
2009 REACH (Recreation Enhances a Child's Health) Extended Care Program created through a cooperative agreement with Valley View School District 365U.

2010's

2010     Denim for Dollars HERO (Help Enrich Recreational Opportunities) program was launched to help support financial aid.
2010 Bolingbrook Park District's Facebook page launched.
2010 Earned the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association for ninth year.
2010 Received $50,000 Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) to renovate Remington Lakes Sports Complex restrooms.
2010 Hidden Lakes Learning Center was raised and removed.
2011 Earned the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association for tenth year.  
2011 WiFi installed at Bolingbrook Recreation & Aquatic Complex, Pelican Harbor, Deatherage Drdak Center, and Building and Grounds Facility.
2011 Received a $300,000 grant from Illinois Department of Natural Resources for improvements to James S. Boan Woods and the other areas within Hidden Oaks Conservation Area.
2011 Received a $1,500 grant from Illinois Arts Council for DanceForce.
2011 Dedicated James S. Boan Woods.
2012 Received Frank Lloyd Wright Award from the American Institute of Architects for Hidden Oaks Nature Center unique design.
2012 DanceForce received the Illinois Park and Recreation Association Outstanding Program Award.
2012 DanceForce parent Association received the Illinois Park and Recreation Association Community Service Award.
2013 Held Launch event for Lily Cache Special Recreation Association on February 7 with over 250 participants, family members, and officials from Bolingbrook and Plainfield in attendance.  
2013 In conjunction with the VFW, the World War II Memorial was completed and dedicated on Memorial Day Weekend.
2013 Launched new Bolingbrook Park District Website on July 18.
2013 Completed the Strategic Plan for the next 5 years of operations.
2013 Received Aa2 Bond Rating from Moody’s (the 2nd such bond rating in 2013).
2013 Restructured the 2004 and 2007 bond series with $4.5 million in new monies for capital projects.
2014 Completed renovation of the Imagination Station room at BRAC, converting to a multi-use recreation room with storage for early childhood, dance, tumbling, and yoga classes. 
2014    Completed renovation of the spa at the Annerino Community Center, converting it to office space for LCSRA 
2014 Completed and approved the update and legal review of the Bolingbrook Park District Full and Part Time Personnel Policy Manuals. 
2014 Held the first Winterfest in conjunction with the Fountaindale Public Library with a huge turnout.
2014 Bolingbrook Park District’s Website was recognized as a 2014 APEX Awards for Publication Excellence winner. Over 2,075 entries were evaluated in categories including newsletters, magazines, annual reports, Websites, writing and more.
2014 Completed the renovation of LifeStyles II at the Annerino Community Center, converting the former free weight area into an additional rec room with an emphasis on special recreation programming.
2014 The Board and Staff of Bolingbrook Park District was honored and thrilled to be the recipient of the 2014 Business of the Year Award from the Bolingbrook Area Chamber of Commerce at the annual Best of Bolingbrook Business (BOBB) Award ceremony on March 28. 
2014 The Deathridge /Drdak Center was closed to the public due to rising costs of ADA and capital replacements.  LCSRA staff was relocated to Annerino Community Center and other staff relocated to BRAC.  
2014 Bolingbrook Park District received $29,905 in grant money from Illinois Energy Now for the installation of six variable speed pool pumps at Pelican Harbor Indoor and Outdoor Aquatic Parks.
2014 Bolingbrook Park District received notification that our application for the start of a 501-C3 Foundation was approved by both State and Federal IRS. The foundation is named the Foundation for Bolingbrook Parks and its board is a 3-member board.
2014 The BRAC parking lot and pathways around the north side of BRAC in Volunteer and Poplar Parks was paved. The parking lot had not been replaced since opening the facility in 1996.
2014    Bolingbrook Park District was notified of receiving grants totaling $65,000. The first is a $25,000 grant for the installation of hot water Boilers at BRAC and ACC and the second was a $40,000 grant for the BRAC parking lot project.
2014 Bolingbrook Park District received official notification of receiving the Distinguished, Accredited Parks and Recreation Agency through IAPD and IPRA. This was a culmination of a 15 month accreditation process and agency audit in legal, administration, business and human resources, parks and facilities, and recreation.
2014 Groundsworkers Mike Gonzalez & Lupe Chaparro both received the 2014 Midwest Institute of Park Executives (MIPE) Outstanding Park Employee Awards.  Crew Leader, Dave Cluts has been awarded one of three Continuing Education Scholarships.
2015 Development of the District’s Long Range Facility Plan for Annerino Community Center, Bolingbrook Recreation & Aquatic Complex, Pelican Harbor, Hidden Oaks Nature Center and Ashbury’s was completed and presented.
2015    Executive Director, Ron Oestreich was named the Bolingbrook Chamber of Commerce Business Leadership Award at the Best of Bolingbrook Business Event 
2015     A computer and IT lab was developed in the District’s server room located in the Annerino Community Center. The project included installing a wall and doors to create a separate workroom for computer and IT service, repairs and I.T. related storage.
2015 Development of the District’s Long Range Facility Plan for Annerino Community Center, Bolingbrook Recreation & Aquatic Complex, Pelican Harbor, Hidden Oaks Nature Center and Ashbury’s was completed and presented.
2015 Executive Director, Ron Oestreich was named Bolingbrook Chamber of Commerce Business Leadership Award at the Best of Bolignbrook Business Event
2015 Administration and Management Staff competed in the Village of Bolingbrook’s 50th Anniversary Cornfield Regatta. The Team did not place, however we were the fan favorite with a Parkie the Pelican inner tube boat and our own Cheer Team thanks to the Storm.
2015 Parkie’s Oasis, the new Spray Playground at Pelican Harbor, was completed and was officially dedicated on opening day, May 23rd.
2015 Indian Boundary Park saw the completion of a regulation size, lighted cricket field. The project includes a cricket pitch, scoreboard, lighting, tree removal and lawn improvements.
2015 Veterans Park now has a red, white, and blue themed playground, baseball backstop, landscaping and a patio with benches, picnic table and shade canopy in the northwest corner of the property.
2015 The Gymnastics Gym at the Annerino Community Center received a new floor, which replaces the 30 year old wood floor. The project also included changing the foam cushion beneath the spring floor carpet and  installation of new spectator bleachers.
2015 Administration and the new AMITA Health Adventist Medical Center, Bolingbrook agree on a one-year extension of the Cooperative Agreement between the two agencies.  In return for promotions and exposure, Bolingbrook Park District receives $20,000.
2015 Working with Valley View School District and Fountaindale Public Library, an accessible sidewalk was constructed to connect the path at Bulldog Park to the library.
2015 Bolingbrook Park District launched an Instagram page (@bolingbrookparkdistrict).
2015 Pelican Harbor hosted the 2015 IPRA State Lifeguard Games. Pelican Harbor teams finished Top-3 in multiple events, including winning the Spirit Award and mascot dance-off.
2015 Bolingbrook Park District receives an impressive 99.5% rating and 5-year accreditation in PDRMA's Loss Control Review, which is a comprehensive assessment and education assessment designed to measure risk management. 
2016 A community-wide survey was conducted and completed by Customer LifeCycle.  More than 600 surveys were completed, with ratings in the 90% range for facilities, parks, programs, instructors and as an overall district.
2016 The Forest Preserve of Will County has implemented an awards program for its affiliates. Bolingbrook Park District has been notified of receiving the “Appreciation of Partners” Award in honor of our many collaborative partnerships in the ongoing development of the DuPage River Greenway
2016 The Community Garden plots will soon be the home to new raised beds. Lowe’s “Hero’s” program believes in helping to transform the communities in which their stores are located. Lowe’s selected the Bolingbrook Park District’s Community Gardens as their project for this year. They will provide $2,500 worth of materials and volunteer labor to build as many raised beds as possible.
2016 Permanent eight foot tall chain link outfield fencing was installed on both softball fields at Remington Lakes Sport Complex.
2016 All of the water slides at Pelican Harbor Outdoor Aquatic Park were resurfaced with protective gel coat. As part of this project, the color scheme was changed to red, white, and blue.
2016 Kai Wahlgren, Kathy Hassert, and Chris Piasecki graduated from the IPRA Leadership Academy. The Academy is a six‐month program with course curriculum that includes leadership methods, accountability, strategic thinking, panel discussions, hot topics and financial strategies
2016 LifeStyles celebrated its 20th anniversary on February 6 with a party that featured a series of eleven special group fitness classes, screenings from AMITA Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital, trainer demos and a cruise giveaway.
2016 Pelican Harbor has implemented the Starfish Swim School, a new swim lesson and certification program. The new program  places a large emphasis on safety, and allows students more opportunity for advancement with additional levels being offered.
2016 KemperSports was approved to manage the operations of Boughton Ridge Golf Course and Ashbury’s. The transition of the team began in late June with KemperSports taking over on July 1.   KemperSports has been challenged to enhance both of the golf course and restaurant operations and offerings.
2016 LCSRA Sports continues to be a force in Illinois with two State Championships in Basketball and over 30 athletes winning medals in various sporting events at the Illinois State Special Olympic Games in June. We are so proud of our Athletes, Coaches, and Parents.
2016 Taking advantage of favorable rates, the process of refunding the Series 2006 Alternative Revenue Source Bonds started in order to better reflect its ability to make payments of debt service from operating funds and provide greater flexibility with regards to future funding alternatives.
2016 Bolingbrook Park District has reached agreement with AMITA Health Adventist Medical Center Bolingbrook on a one year cooperative agreement. The agreement has been revamped, focusing on outreach opportunities for the hospital team such as Winterfest, our new Heart Month in February, Week of the Young Child, All Staff Training, and the Concert Series. This agreement brings the District $18,000 from AHAMC, for their partnership.  The total partnership contribution from the Hospital since the initial agreement in 2006 is $205,000.
2016 For the 16th consecutive year, the District has received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association.
