Bolingbrook Park District's successful and popular gymnastics program features safe, professional and individualized instruction in a modern gymnastics arena. This exciting and energetic sport develops confidence, strength, flexibility, coordination and balance. Children will be introduced to vault, bars, beam and floor at all levels. As skills are mastered we introduce more opportunities for team competition and advanced skills.
Level One is a basic level for children that are new to gymnastics. Good form and positions will be learned at this level. Class is commonly repeated before moving on to Level Two. Level One gymnasts will learn the following skills:
Floor: Forward and backward tuck rolls, straddle rolls, lunge, kick to handstand, cartwheel, bridge, splits and coupe releve hold.
Bars: Front support, casting, beginning pullover, swing, forward rolls off the bars and pike and
Beam: Walks, kicks, straight jumps, arabesque, support mount, releve/coupe, tuck jump and
Vault: Use of springboard, landing position, squat on vaults, dive roll vault onto cheese mat and proper running technique.
Level Two is a more advanced level that stresses mastering Level One skills in addition to learning the skills listed below:
Floor: Forward straddle roll, back tuck rolls, handstand, cartwheels, bridge kickovers from cheese mat, split leap and coupe heel snaps.
Bars: Pullover from 1 foot, casting, back hip circle, beginning leg cuts and squat on drills.
Beam: Leg kicks, straight jumps, pivot turns, coupe kicks, split and tuck jumps and handstands.
Vault: Dive roll vaults on cheese hill and resi mat, handstand fall flats.
Level Three is a more advanced level of Developmental Gymnastics that must be recommended by an instructor prior to registration. Level Three stresses mastering Level One and Level Two skills in addition to learning the new skills listed below:
Floor: Handstand roll downs, handstand to bridge, bridge kick over, back roll to pike, round offs, split leaps, coupe half turns, jump series and beginning dance moves.
Bars: Pullover from 2 feet, back hip circle, single leg cuts, squat on drills and straddle glides.
Beam:Tuck jump, split jump/leaps, arabesque holds, leg kicks and handstand on low beam.
Vault: Handstand fall flats, arm circle straight jump to resi mat and 12 inch mat kick to
handstand, beginning dive roll on resi mat, handstand blocks and running drills for acceleration
Level Four is the most advanced level of Developmental Gymnastics that must be recommended by an instructor prior to registration. Level Four stresses mastering Level One, Level Two and Level Three skills in addition to learning the new skills listed below:
Floor: Handstand roll down, Front limber to bridge kick over, back walkover, back roll to pike position, round off rebound. flip flops, split leaps, jump series, chasses and heel snaps.
Bars: Pullover from 2 feet, back hip circle, single leg cut, forward stride circle, reverse leg cut, sole circle dismount, cast to horizontal and glide toes to bar.
Beam: Pivot turns, straight and split jumps/leaps, jump series, leg swings, arabesque, ¾ handstand and beginning Level 3 dismount.
Vault: Handstand blocks, heel drive onto resi mat and beginning stage of Level 3 vault.
