Bolingbrook Park District & AMITA Health Team Up Again for Happy Heart Month

Bolingbrook Park District and AMITA Health Adventist Medical Center Bolingbrook have once again partnered together to raise awareness of the importance of heart health in the month of February. Improving the overall health and wellness of the community of Bolingbrook is at the center of the mission for both organizations. By offering programs that promote the four key components of heart health, residents can have fun while learning the importance of heart health. 

Cardiovascular disease is not something to be ignored at any age.  Risks such as obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure and cholesterol, along with inactivity are all things to keep under control.  By keeping your mind sharp, eating a balanced, nutritional diet, staying emotionally strong and physically active, you can help keep your heart happy and healthy.  A special website ( has been created to provide information and resources to the community to ensure a “Happy Heart.” 

The four key components to a happy heart are as follows:

1.         Physical strength – Work out to keep heart strong

2.         Emotional strength – Spend quality time with loved ones

3.         Mental strength – Keeping your mind sharp

4.         Nutritional balance – Eating for overall health

Throughout the month of February, Bolingbrook Park District and AMITA Health Adventist Medical Center Bolingbrook will be partnering to bring special events to the community, emphasizing these four key components.

Emotional health is an often forgotten topic when it comes to heart health. Spending quality time with loved ones is important for your emotional health. Bolingbrook Park District offers Daddy/Daughter Social on February 7 at the Levy Center for this exact reason. The connection between a parent and child is vital for emotional health. The event features dancing, arts and crafts, photos and more importantly devoted time with your daughter. The event is from 6:45-8:45 pm. Registration is accepted through Friday, February 1 at any park district facility. 

Focusing on the physical strength of the heart, Heart Healthy Fitness Day will be Sunday, February 10 at the Bolingbrook Recreation & Aquatic Complex, 200 S. Lindsey Lane in Bolingbrook.   LifeStyles Fitness Center will feature Buddy Up Workouts and a nutritional seminar titled “Hello Food. Can we Talk?” - Improving Our Relationship with Food.  In this seminar, you will dive into techniques of self-exploration in order to restore our focus during times of eating. We will learn ways to become more aware of our body’s signals and question what lies underneath cravings and urges to eat when we aren’t hungry. We will take the time to understand and appreciate how the food we eat nourishes us. This seminar is just $15 and includes registration into the Buddy Up Workouts, which you can do from 1:00-2:30.  Ages 16 & up is required for the buddy-up workouts and is $7 for members and $10 for non-members. 

On Friday, February 22, the Rockin’ Red Zumba party will get your heart pumping.  The event is held from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Bolingbrook Recreation & Aquatic Complex, 200 S. Lindsey Lane in Bolingbrook. Net proceeds are donated to fund heart research, education, and treatment programs through AMITA Health.  Party entrance is just $5 for members before February 13, $7 for non-members.  After February 19, the price is $10 for both members and non-members.

We Love Our Customers Fest is for kid’s ages 3-12 years with adults and is a great opportunity to spend time as a family. On Saturday, February 23 from 5:30-7:30 pm, this fun-filled evening with let you fly, tumble, balance, flip in the gymnastics gym and test your skills scaling up the climbing wall. Fee is just $12 per person.
