Fall Fun at Bolingbrook Park District

Now that it’s officially fall, Bolingbrook Park District has a fun slate of fall-themed programs and events.  Highlighted with the 3rd Annual Fall Fest on September 28, there’s something for all ages and interests. Make fall fun by learning a new skill at a program, taking a trip, or enjoying the fall leaves changing colors on a trail.

Fall Fest: An Explosion of Color is a free event on Saturday, September 28 from 3:00-7:00 pm at the Bolingbrook Recreation & Aquatic Complex (200 S. Lindsey Ln.).  Activities include tricycle races, ultimate nerf zone, children’s craft ten, bingo, canoeing, horse & carriage rides, a pumpkin patch, and more! Fall Fest is presented in partnership with AMITA Health Adventist Medical Center, Bolingbrook and sponsored by DuPage Medical Group, participating families will enjoy fireworks, live music from CFactor, and food for purchase.

On Friday, October 11 from 4:00-8:00 pm at Hidden Oaks Nature Center, enjoy Freaky Fun Friday. Connect with nature by meeting exciting critters and searching for the beast that lives in the Hidden Oaks woods! Don't miss the family-friendly crafts, activities, monster hunt, and s'mores around the fire. This is the perfect opportunity to take your Halloween costume for a test drive!

Create a prize pumpkin creation in a festive atmosphere at Pumpkin Creations from 10:00-11:00 am on Tuesday, October 29 at the Bolingbrook Recreation & Aquatic Complex (200 Lindsey Ln.) Children ages 2-5 with an adult will play cooperative games, sing seasonal songs, and creatively decorate a pumpkin. Please send children in play clothes as this class can get messy.

Just because summer is over, doesn’t mean you can’t go swimming! Celebrate Halloween at Haunted Pelican Harbor on Friday, October 25 from 6:00-8:00 pm. Trick or treat your way around Pelican Harbor Indoor Aquatic Park, but watch out we may have a few tricks up our sleeves. Collect a pumpkin from our floating pumpkin patch, decorate it, and enjoy other holiday themed activities.

Adults can enjoy fall by taking a trip to the Chicago Botanic Garden to see the Night of 1,000 Jack-O-Lanterns on October 17, create your own work of art by making a “Halloween Hijinx” gloss enamel painting, a Rock & Roll Pumpkin at the Fired Ceramic Workshop, or paint “Sugar Skulls” at the Canvas Painting class.  Bolingbrook Park District is home to 10 miles of trails that will showcase the fall leaves, perfect for a crisp autumn hike.

Kids ages 6-14 years can learn to make fall-themed treats like caramel apple pops (October 1), spider cookies/ghoulish apple teeth (October 15), or jack-o-lantern cookies (October 29) at Kathy’s Delicious Treats. Classes meet on Tuesday at 5:00 pm at the Annerino Community Center (201 Recreation Dr.).
