Fun Fall Activities at Bolingbrook Park District

Fall in Bolingbrook is pretty with all the leaves changing and allows us to bring you unique opportunities for fun.  You can get outside and enjoy our 48 parks and 10 miles of trails to enjoy the fall foliage.  No matter your age or interests, we’re excited to bring you an opportunity to learn a new skill, spend time with family, and be active.

If you’re in to the smells, colors and everything fall-themed, Hidden Oaks Nature Center (419 Trout Farm Rd.) offers a program on Saturday, October 27 from 2:30-3:30 pm called Fall Fun Leaves that is open to all ages.  For just $8, $5 with a resident ID, you can learn all about the changing of the seasons and leaves on the trees.  Go on a hike and make bark and leaf rubbings to take home.

At Pelican Harbor Aquatic Park (200 S. Lindsey Ln.) on Friday, October 26 at 6:00 pm, you can join Parkie in the floating pumpkin patch, choose your pumpkin and then decorate it.  Candy capsules will be in the pool for swimmers for swimmers to gather.  Don’t worry, they’ll have treats – no tricks!  Fee is $10 per person, $7 with a resident ID, or $5 if you’re an Annual Aquatic Member.

To get a jump on your holiday shopping, the annual Holiday Craft Show & LCSRA Bake Sale is Saturday, November 3 from 9:00 am-3:00 pm at the Annerino Community Center (201 Recreation Dr). Admission is free to all.

For youngster’s ages 3-5 years, they can take the Fun Flavors of Fall program where they will get hands-on to explore traditional and non-traditional flavors of the season through taste tests, art and messy play.  This class runs on Tuesday’s at 10:45-11:30 am from October 16-November 13.  Fee is $74, $49 with a resident ID.

For the older kids ages 6-12 years old, programs like Have the Slime of Your Life: Halloween Version and Halloween in Hollywood are perfect to get into the fall spirit.  In Have the Slime of Your Life, Kids will make glow in the dark slime.  They’ll learn about the physics of slime have a slime textured snack.  In Halloween in Hollywood, experiment with Hollywood scary special effects from movies like bleeding blisters, bad bruises, wicked wounds, gross teeth and more secrets from cinema. 

Both classes are Saturday, October 27 at the Annerino Community Center (201 Recreation Dr.) and are $34 each, $23 with a resident ID. Have the Slime of Your Life is from 10:00-11:00 am and Halloween in Hollywood is 11:00 am-Noon). Registration deadline is October 21. 

If you just want to get outside and take the dog for a walk, our staff recommends the trails at Hidden Lakes Historic Trout Farm (475 Trout Farm Rd), Knights of Columbus Park (190 Northridge Dr), Sunset (1500 Waterside Dr.) and Freedom (1600 Park Pl.) Parks.

As always, if you’re not the outdoors-y type, we have a full group exercise schedule at LifeStyles Fitness Center, open gym times and the Annerino Community Center (201 Recreation Dr.) and Bolingbrook Recreation & Aquatic Complex (200 S. Lindsey Ln), and open swim at Pelican Harbor Indoor Aquatic Park.
