New Playground to be Installed this Spring at Blackhawk Pond

Progress has been made to remove the 25-year-old playground at Blackhawk Pond, located at 600 Blackhawk Ln.  Plans have been approved by the Bolingbrook Park District Board of Commissioners to install a new playground that is scheduled to open in the spring of this year.  The playground, focusing on kids 2-12 years-old will cover more than 5,000 square feet and include the following amenities:

  • Four Slides, including a “hypersonic” slide and a spiral slide
  • Four swings, including two tot swings
  • Raft Rider
  • Wobble Sphere
  • Stand-N-Spin
  • X-Climber
  • Catwalk Bridge
  • Accordion Climber

This playground includes favorites like slides and swings, yet introduces a new piece of equipment we don’t have at any of our other playgrounds – the raft rider,” said Jim Patula, Superintendent of Projects, Planning & Loss Prevention.  “One of most common requests we hear from residents is shade in parks. So, we made sure that this playground had permanent shade structures that are long lasting and will reduce maintenance costs,” said Patula.

Bolingbrook Park District utilized being a member of the National Joint Powers Alliances (NJPA), which is a program that bids playground equipment on behalf of its members.  By taking advantage of this membership, the park district saved over $15,000 on the purchase of the equipment by avoiding contractor fees.  An additional $25,000 was saved by having park district staff remove the old playground structure, therefore eliminating contractor fees.

The playground equipment will be manufactured by Little Tikes Commercial Play Structures and was sold by Playpower LT Farmington, Inc.
