Bolingbrook Park District Welcomes Ninja Zone in 2017

Bolingbrook Park District is excited to announce its newest program coming in January 2017: Ninja Zone.   Ninja Zone is a thrilling new sport for kids. It was developed by fusing elements of martial arts, gymnastics, obstacle course training and freestyle movement.  It leverages kids’ fire and excitement into an activity they truly love, building the strength, agility, stealth and mental prowess of a trained ninja.

“No matter what your size or ability level is, you will leave Ninja mastering skills that you will use for life: discipline, respect, pride, teamwork, dealing with conflict, creating focus and being self-responsible,” said Maureen Franzen, gymnastics program manager. “Awards come from within and we want your child to feel great about who they are, so they can give back to the world!”

Ninja Zone is 80% continuous movement. Coordination trains safety as they will know how to land, roll and shock absorb and stay safe in most sports. Instinctual safety will be taught and that is learning how to fall and recover.  The result is more confident, disciplined kids who have a physical, mental and emotional foundation to take on any challenge.

The program is divided into two different groups: Lil Ninjas, age 3.5-5 years old and Ninjas, ages 6-11 years old. Classes will be split up by gender as boys and girls have different athletic learning styles. Boys learn through competition, girls learn through collaboration. Gendered classes will be determined by registration numbers.

“Our gymnastics program has a strong focus on the female gender and I’ve always wanted to offer something for boys using the space that we have. This is it!  Ninja will make strong, confident young men in both mind and body,” said Franzen.

There are four levels to be mastered: white, yellow, green and blue. All participants to Ninja Zone will begin in white and must master each level in order to advance to the next level.   Ninjas will be invited to “Mission” by their Ninja Instructor once they have completed all of the skills at their current level. This is a separate class where your ninja will receive their new level headband.

“Your child will master coordination and agility along with instinctual safety, the art of learning how to fall and recover that will carry through into many other sports in their lives,” said Franzen. “There is pride instilled in all of our Ninjas. Being a part of a group and wearing their Ninja shirt and level-colored headband signifies progress and success!”

Each Ninja is required to purchase a uniform package - t-shirt and headband. Once you’ve registered for Ninja Zone, visit www.bolingbrookparks.org/ninjazone and find the link at the bottom of the page to purchase your uniform.

All Ninja Zone coaches are fully trained on technical skill, equipment, and pro-active safety according to guidelines set forth by Ninja Zone.
