BOLINGBROOK PARK DISTRICT PRESCHOOL

2008-2009 Stepping Stones and Eager Beavers Preschool

Stepping Stones
is a balanced program designed to meet the social, emotional, motor and creative needs of children ages 3-5.  Kindergarten readiness skills will be introduced in a low-key atmosphere and will include exposure to letters, numbers, shapes, colors and basic concepts in preparation for further learning. Stepping Stones preschool is held at 3 locations: Annerino Community Center, Deatherage/Drdak Center and the Bolingbrook Recreation & Aquatic Complex.

Eager Beavers is very similar to the Stepping Stones program, however, classes are held at the unique Hidden Lakes Learning Center.  The children will be exposed to traditional preschool concepts while incorporating nature into many activities.  Outdoor activities are a regular part of the Eager Beavers program.

Each class consists of two teachers per 18 students. In addition, each parent/guardian is encouraged to volunteer as a helper 2-5 times per school year, at which time they are also asked to provide a nutritious snack for the children.

Age requirements: Children must be 3 on or before September 1, 2008 to enter the three-year-old program.  Children must be 4 on or before September 1, 2008 to enter the four-year-old program.  A copy of a birth or baptismal certificate is required upon registration.  All children must have a medical form, emergency form and car pool form (if necessary) on file and be toilet-trained before school begins.

The program is for the entire school year - September 2008 through May 2009.  A school calendar will be provided to you on the first day of school.

Bi-Lingual Preschool
School can be a challenging experience for children who do not speak English fluently.  This class is geared towards Spanish speaking students and is taught by teachers fluent in both Spanish and English.  The school year will begin with lessons entirely in Spanish.  Gradually throughout the year, English will be spoken more frequently.  Teachers will encourage children to speak English to each other.  By the end of the year, students will have a greater comprehension of the English language and will be ready to start Kindergarten.  Child must be 4 by September 1, 2008.

¡NUEVO!
Child must be 4 by September 1, 2008.

Registration Process for the 2008-2009 School Year
This year, the preschool lottery will take place February 4-18.  A non-refundable $50 registration deposit will be due at registration and for all registrations accepted between February 4-May 14th . The $50 deposit will be applied toward the preschool year's tuition, therefore, the first payment will be $50 less than advertised.  Your park district invoice will reflect this change.  If you choose not to have your child attend the preschool program, your $50 deposit will not be refunded.

Registration deposit: $50 non-refundable registration deposit that will be applied to the preschool  year's tuition will be required on all registrations prior to May 14th.

· Your spot in preschool will be forfeited and a $25 late fee will be assessed if your payment is delinquent.

· Individuals that drop out of preschool after March 15, 2008 will not be refunded the remainder of the school year.

Registration Procedures: The preschool program has a simple "No-Lines" lottery registration procedure.  Upon registration, your child's preschool location may change from the previous year subject to lottery draw. Once your child has been placed in a class, they cannot be placed on a wait list for a different class.

New for the 2008/09 preschool registration: All children currently enrolled in the 2007/08 preschool year will receive priority registration, along with their siblings for the 2008/09 preschool year.  This includes the New Threes Program.  All three-year old classes will receive a special envelope to use for registration.  Participants are welcome to put more than one registration into the envelope for carpool purposes, however, only those who are currently registered for the 2007/08 preschool year, or their siblings may be in the envelope.  During the lottery, current registration will be verified before the child is registered.  If there is a registration in a special envelope that contains a non-sibling child not currently registered for preschool, that registration will be entered after all other registrations have been processed.  Siblings of the three year olds will be given priority registration because the park district recognizes that there is a need to coordinate your children's schedule.  This will not be offered to current Four-Year-Old students' siblings.

Registration procedures are as follows:
January 7, 2008:  Registration packets will be available to pick up at the Annerino Community Center, Deatherage/Drdak Center and the Bolingbrook Recreation & Aquatic Complex

February 4-18, 2008:  Preschool registration applications will be available and accepted at the Annerino Community Center, Deatherage/Drdak Center and the Bolingbrook Recreation & Aquatic Complex.  Simply choose your first, second, third, and fourth choice for your class, and submit the form with your $50 registration deposit during this lottery registration period (check or credit card only), current Resident ID card, and a copy of your child's birth certificate. The non-refundable $50 registration fee will be deducted from your child's yearly tuition, therefore, the first payment will be $50 less than what is advertised.  Your park district invoice will reflect this adjustment.  This fee is due upon registration for all those registering prior to May 14th.  If a second, third or fourth choice is not listed on your registration form; you will be placed on a waiting list for your first choice.  Due to the large number of preschool registrations to be processed, individuals who do not list a fourth choice and their first, second and third choice is filled, will not be called for their fourth choice until after the lottery has been completed. This registration period is open only to residents.  A Resident ID Card is required at registration.  Children who need to be placed at the same time and location for car-pool/child care needs may apply together, as long as their applications are submitted together in the same envelope, stapled together, and all of their choices (first, second, third and fourth) are identical (up to 3 children).  Children placed at the same time and location for car-pool/childcare needs are not guaranteed to be in the same classroom.  Unfortunately, teacher requests and classmate requests cannot be honored.

February 22: All of the preschool registration applications submitted between February 4 and February 18 will be placed into the classes randomly based on your choices.

Week of February 25th: Confirmations will be mailed to your home informing you of your child's class placement. * Please note, a confirmation guarantees your child the class location, day and time - not a particular instructor(s) or classmates.

March 4-August 18:  Early bird Registration.  Registrations will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis for any open spots.  This registration period will be open to those with Resident IDs and those without for a $50 non-refundable registration deposit for all registrations accepted March 5-May 14th .  After May 14th , the first preschool payment is due upon registration. The $50 registration fee will be deducted from your child's yearly tuition, therefore, the first payment will be $50 less than what is advertised.  Your park district invoice will reflect this adjustment.

August 18: Early Bird Registration ends and the first payment that is due upon registration will be increased by $25 to all registrations accepted after August 20.

PRESCHOOL PROGRAM FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Could you tell me a little bit about your preschool program?
Our Mission...
To provide a preschool program rich in opportunities and experiences that will nurture, teach and challenge the young children in the community and assist in their social, intellectual and emotional development.

Stepping Stones is a balanced program designed to meet the social, emotional, motor and creative needs of children ages 3-5. Kindergarten readiness skills are introduced in a low- key atmosphere of play and hands-on learning that includes exposure to letters, numbers, shapes, colors, and basic concepts in preparation for further learning. Stepping Stones preschool is held at 3 locations: Annerino Community Center, 201 Recreation Drive, Deatherage/Drdak Center, 230 East Briarcliff Road, and Bolingbrook Recreation & Aquatic Complex, 200 S. Lindsey Lane.

Eager Beavers is very similar to the Stepping Stones program, however classes are held at the unique Hidden Lakes Learning Center. The children will be exposed to traditional preschool concepts while incorporating nature into many activities. Outdoor activities are a regular part of the Eager Beavers program.

Each class consists of two teachers per 18 students. In addition, each parent/guardian is encouraged to volunteer as a parent helper 2-5 times per school year, at which time they are also asked to provide a nutritious snack for the children.

What are the age requirements to enroll my child in preschool?
Children must be 3 on or before September 1, 2005 to enter the three-year old program. Children must be 4 on or before September 1, 2005 to enter the four-year-old program. Unfortunately, exceptions cannot be made to the age requirements.

What do I need to register for preschool?
A copy of a birth or baptismal certificate is required. Proof of residency is required in order to register during the resident registration period. All children must have a medical form, emergency form, and car pool form (if necessary) on file and be toilet trained before school begins.
